Hello and welcome to the lesson!

This WebQuest was designed for the Art Education: Visual Culture and Educational Technology course at The Pennsylvania State University.  The lesson is made to teach students using Web 2.0 technology because I will not physically be teaching the lesson to the students. This interactive website will allow students to think critically and develop their artistic and technological skills.

Grade Level:  This lesson is geared toward 7th grade students, but would work for 6-9th graders.

Time: 10 class periods of 42 minutes.

Lesson Title: Perspective

Lesson Rationale:

Many words have multiple meanings. The way in which we use these words changes the way we think and act when it is used. The word ‘perspective’ has several different definitions. This lesson will focus on two different meanings of perspective. We will be exploring these definitions through digital photography. For the first definition through an artist’s understanding, students will create photos that enlarge, extend, or transform the actual space. For the second meaning, students will explore perspective in an analytical way. Students will understand that people have different ideas and opinions based on their experiences in life. They will be able to learn new things from others based on their point of view. After a discussion, which will allow the students to explore one another’s differentiating points of view, they will create photos based on what they have learned. Life experiences change the way we view people, situations and/or topics. I believe it is important for students of any age to understand and learn from our differences.

Learner Outcomes:

I hope that the students will take away a new understanding of the word perspective. They will acquire skills that will allow them to creatively take photos that appear to extend and enlarge space. Students will have a positive attitude about learning other’s perspectives. They will be able to make significant connections to this lesson and their life experiences.
